Derived Parts Reference
Derived Parts Manager Right-Click Actions
- Creates a new derived part of the selected type, using a graphical editor when a visualization display is open. For a description of all the available types of derived part, see Accessing Solution Data through Derived Parts.
- New Group
- Facilitates the grouping of objects by creating a group node within the manager node.
- Group By
- Allows you to group the objects according to any of the properties of the objects in the manager node, which are listed in a submenu of this menu item.
- Ungroup
- Reverses the grouping process.
Derived Part Common Properties
The following properties are common to most types of derived parts.
- Coordinate System
- Applies to plane, constrained plane, cylinder, and sphere sections.
- Parts
- Selects the input parts as the source for deriving the derived part.
Derived Part Common Right-Click Actions
The following right-click actions are common to most types of derived parts.
- Edit Part in Current Scene
- Allows you to set the properties of this part interactively. This option is only available if a scene is open. See Defining Derived Parts.
- Export...
- Exports the extracted data of the part to an external STL or VTK file. See Exporting to an External File.
- Extract Geometry Part
- Allows you to extract a derived part, such as an isosurface, threshold, or vector warp into a geometry part. See Extracting Geometry from a Derived Part.
- Split by Input
- Creates a derived part of the same kind as the parent for each input part. For more information about this and other actions that split derived parts, see Splitting Derived Parts by Input and by Value.
- Split by Input Volume
- Creates a derived part of the same kind as the parent for each input part, based on volumetric parts only, ignoring other parts such as boundaries.
- Split by Section
- Creates a derived part based on each section of a multi-section implicit part (such as a plane or a sphere).
- Split by Isovalue
- Creates a derived part based on each isovalue of a multi-value isosurface.
