Selection

The selection options allow you to control how entities are selected in the graphics window.

Option Description
(Selection) Allows you to select entities in the 3D-CAD View scene. This option is selected by default.
(Select Interior Faces) Allows you to select the interior faces within a body.
To select the interior faces:
  1. Select the appropriate set of cap faces or edges. A cap face is a surface around an entry or exit point which belongs to the exterior body. Selecting edges specifies the exact location of the point.
In the following example, a set of cap faces highlighted in purple were selected.

  2. In the toolbar at the top of the 3D-CAD View scene, click the (Selection) icon and select (Select Interior Faces).
The interior faces within the body are selected.

In cases where the topology is not well defined, the Select Interior Faces tool might end up selecting exterior faces.

(Select Free Edges) After selecting one or more faces, clicking this option selects the free edges belonging to those faces (if any). This option is useful for operations such as Zip Edges and Bridge Surfaces.
(Grow Face Selection) After selecting at least one face, edge, or vertex, clicking this option grows the selection by one layer of neighboring faces.
(Shrink Face Selection) Allows you to shrink the pre-selected faces by one neighbor, based on the connected vertices of the faces.
(Paint Selection)Allows you to select bodies, body groups, faces, and edges. To do paint selection:
  1. Within the Selection drop-down list, select (Paint Selection).
  2. To start painting, click the first object in the scene and hover your mouse over all other desired entities.
  3. To confirm selection and stop painting, click the MMB (Middle Mouse Button).
  4. To resume painting, click a new area of the model.
  5. To terminate the paint selection procedure, press the ESC key.
  6. To unpaint objects, double-click the unwanted entity and hover the mouse over other unwanted entities. When all unwanted entities are unpainted, double-click to resume painting.
