Particle Remediation

These reports are available only for Smoothed-Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) multiphase simulations. You use these reports to monitor the number of particles that are removed from the simulation based on the position-based and/or velocity-based criteria defined in the Particle Remediation model.

In SPH simulations, to prevent Simcenter STAR-CCM+ from tracking outliers and thereby performing unnecessary calculations, you can remove particles when they meet certain position-based and/or velocity-based criteria. See Removing and Redistributing Particles.

The following particle remediation reports are available:
  • Position-Based Removed Particles—tracks the number of particles that are removed from the simulation based on their positions within the simulation domain, as defined by the Position-Based Criterion. You use this report to assess the number of particles that are removed from the simulation in unbounded geometry cases or that leak through boundaries in bounded geometry cases.
  • Velocity-Based Removed Particles—tracks the number of particles that are removed from the simulation based on their velocities within the simulation domain, as defined by the Velocity-Based Criterion. You use this report to assess the number of particles that are removed from the simulation due to unphysical velocities such as local instabilities or particles trapped between boundaries.

You can use these reports to monitor and compare the accumulated number of particles that are removed from the simulation by using Accumulate Y-Values in plot data sets.
These reports are executed every time-step. Therefore, to avoid misinterpretation of results refrain from plotting per iteration and use the default setting of Physical Time.
