Setting Up the Injector

The imported injector geometry consists of a single part surface, by default. To introduce oil particles from the bottom of the injector, you define a separate inlet surface. With this surface, you create an inlet boundary, where you inject the oil particles with a mass flow rate of 0.06 kg/s and a particle diameter of 0.3 mm.

To set up the injector:
  1. Right-click the Geometry > Parts > injector > Surfaces > Surface node and select Split by Angle....
  2. In the Split Part Surfaces by Angle dialog, set Angle (degrees) to 80.0, then click OK.
The surface is split into the following surfaces:
    • Surface 2—the top surface of the injector
    • Surface 3—the bottom surface of the injector
    • Surface—the remaining injector surfaces
  3. Multi-select the Surface and Surface 2 nodes, right-click one of the selected nodes, and select Combine.
  4. Rename the combined surface to Wall.
  5. Rename Surface 3 to Inlet.
  6. Right-click the inlet node and select Set Boundary > New....
  7. In the Input dialog, click OK.
  8. Edit the Regions > gearbox > Boundaries > Inlet node and set the following properties:
    NodePropertySetting
    InletTypeMass Flow Inlet
    Physics Values
    Relative Mass Flow RateValue0.06 kg/s
  9. Select the Regions > gearbox > Physics Values > Particle Base Size node and set Value to 3.0E-4 m.
  10. Save the simulation.
