Modifying the Simulation Setup for Injection Lubrication

In this part of the tutorial, you modify the simulation setup to model injection lubrication. As a first step, you clear the solution of the preceding simulation, remove the oil bath initialization, and increase the rotation rate of the gears.

For the pinion, you apply a rotation rate of 12000 rpm. The gear counter-rotates at a rate of 5837.8 rpm.
To modify the simulation setup for injection lubrication:
  1. Clear the solution:
    1. Select Solution > Clear Solution....
    2. In the Clear Solution dialog, click OK.
  2. To remove the initial oil bath, select the Regions > gearbox > Physics Values > Particle Generation node and de-select Oil Initial from Parts.
  3. To increase the rotation rate of the gears, edit the Regions > gearbox > Physics Values > Direct Rotating Motion > By Part Subgroup node and set the rotation rates as follows:
    NodePropertySetting
    Gear
Direct Rotating Motion ValuesRotation Rate-5837.8 rpm
    Pinion
Direct Rotating Motion ValuesRotation Rate12000 rpm
  4. Save the simulation under the file name SPH_Gearbox_OilInjectionLubrication.sim.
