Selecting the Physics Models

You use the Smoothed-Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) model to simulate the laminar and incompressible flow of oil inside a gear box. You select the Particle Remediation model to be able to remove individual oil particles that leave the vicinity of the gearbox.

To select the physics models:
  1. Right-click the Continua node and select New Physics Continuum.
  2. Rename the Continua > Physics 1 node to Oil Continuum.
  3. Right-click the Continua > Oil Continuum node and select Select Models....
  4. In the Physics Model Selection dialog, select the following models in order, then click Close:
    Group Box Model
    Space
    • Three Dimensional
    Time
    • Implicit Unsteady
    Material
    • Multiphase
    • Multiphase Interaction (selected automatically)
    Multiphase Model
    • Smoothed-Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH)
    • Solution Interpolation (selected automatically)
    • Incompressible Flow (ISPH) (selected automatically)
    • Adaptive Time-Step (selected automatically)

  5. To assign the physics continuum to the gearbox region, select the Regions > gearbox node and set Physics Continuum to Oil Continuum.
  6. Save the simulation.
