Visualizing Wave Forcing and Wave Propagation

To visualize wave forcing the propagation of the waves in the domain, and the pressure they apply to the hull, you create two scalar scenes.

  1. To create the forcing strength indicator scene:
    1. Right-click the Scenes node and select New Scene > Scalar.
    2. Rename the Scalar Scene 1 node to Forcing Strength Indicator.
    3. Right-click the Outline 1 and select Delete.
    4. In the Scalar 1 > Parts node, set Parts to Derived Parts > XY Plane Section .
    5. Select the Scalar 1 > Scalar Field node and set the following properties:
      Property Setting
      Function Forcing Strength Indicator
      Auto Range Off
      Min 0.0
      Max 0.0

This creates a binary Forcing Strength Indicator scene. To visualize the forcing strength indicator you need to initialize the solution. The blue area in the scene shows the region where the Navier-Stokes equations are solved without the need to apply an additional forcing source term. The red area shows where some level of forcing has been applied to the Navier-stokes solution. The hull will always stay in the blue area due to the motion transform applied.

  2. To visualize the wave propagation and pressure at the isosurface:
    1. Right-click the Scenes node and select New Scene > Scalar.
    2. Rename Scalar Scene 1 to IsoSurfaceWaves.
    3. Select the IsoSurfaceWaves scene and set Aspect Ratio to 16:9.
    4. Right-click the IsoSurfaceWaves > Outline 1 node and select Delete
  3. Create a motion transform:
    1. Right-click the Tools > Transforms node and select New Graphics Transform > Motion Transform.
    2. Select the Motion Transform 1 node and set the following properties:
      Property Setting
      Motion Body 1-Follow-Motion
      Use Inverse Activated
      Recorded Representation wavehistory
  4. To assign the motion to the scene:
    1. Select the IsoSurfaceWave > Scalar 1 node and set the following properties:
      Property Setting
      Transform Motion Transform 1
      Representation Latest Surface/Volume
    2. Select the Scalar 1 > Parts node and set Parts to Derived Parts > Isosurface.
    3. Select the Scalar Field node and set the following properties:
      Property Setting
      Function Position > Laboratory > Z
      Auto Range Off
      Min -10.0 m
      Max 10.0 m
    4. Select Scalar 1 > Color Bar and set Color Map to cool-warm.
  5. To create the Pressure displayer for the IsoSurfaceWaves scene:
    1. Right-click the IsoSurfaceWaves node and select New Displayer > Scalar.
    2. Select the Scalar 2 node and set the following properties:
      Property Setting
      Contour Style Smooth Filled
      Transform Motion Transform 1
    3. Select the Scalar 2 > Parts node and select Regions > Subtracted Hull.
    4. Select the Scalar Field node and set the following properties:
      Property Setting
      Function Pressure
Auto Range Min and Max Values
  6. Save the Simulation.
