Specifying Solver Settings

For wave simulations, you are advised to use a 2nd-order implicit unsteady solver. For the purpose of this tutorial, a time-step of 0.01 s is sufficient. Real world cases typically require a much smaller time-step.

  1. Select the Solvers > Implicit Unsteady node and set the following properties:
    Property Setting
    Time-Step 0.01 s
    Temporal Discretization 2nd-order
  2. Select the Adaptive Time-Step node and set Minimum Time-Step to 0.01 s.
Setting the Adaptive Time-Step to 0.01 s forces the time-step to be 0.01 s or larger. In general, a more appropriate value would be between 1E-3 and 1E-4 s, which keeps the Courant number below the lower threshold of 0.4.
  3. Save the simulation.
