Visualizing the 6-DOF Body Motion, and Applied Force

To visualize and monitor the motion and orientation of the 6-DOF body, as well as the fluid force acting on the body, you create DFBI reports as well as the corresponding monitors and plots.

  1. To visualize the motion for the hull, you create DFBI motion reports:
    1. Right-click the Reports node and select New Report > DFBI > 6-DOF Body Translation.
    2. Rename the 6-DOF Body Translation 1 node to 6-DOF Body Translation X.
    3. Repeat the previous steps to create three reports named; 6-DOF Body Translation X, 6-DOF Body Translation Y, and 6-DOF Body Translation Z.
    4. Select the 6-DOF Body Translation Y node and set Direction to [0.0, 1.0, 0.0].
    5. Select the 6-DOF Body Translation Z node and set Direction to [0.0, 0.0, 1.0]
The 6-DOF Body Orientation report calculates the pitch rotation angle. In this case, the pitch orientation is the Y axis. The 6-DOF Body Force report is specified in the X axis.
  1. To create the reports for pitch and resistive force:
    1. Right-click the Reports node and select New Report > DFBI > 6-DOF Body Orientation.
    2. Rename 6-DOF Body Orientation 1 to 6-DOF Body Orientation Y.
    3. Select the 6-DOF Body Orientation Y and set the following properties:
      Property Setting
Angle Report Option Rotation Y Axis
Euler Angle Convention Rotation X-Y-Z Axis
    4. Repeat the previous steps to create a 6-DOF Body Orientation X report with the following properties:
      Property Setting
Angle Report Option Rotation X Axis
Euler Angle Convention Rotation X-Y-Z Axis
As the wave direction is in the negative X direction there is not roll about the X axis, therefore you create this report for later in the tutorial where you specify a diagonal wave front.
    5. Right-click the Reports node and select New > DFBI > 6-DOF Body Force.
    6. Rename 6-DOF Body Force 1 to 6-DOF Body Force X.
    7. Multi-select all six reports you have just created.
    8. Right-click one of the selected nodes, select Create Monitor and Plot From Report.
    9. In the Create Plot from Reports... dialog select Multiple Plots (one per report).
  2. Save the simulation.
