Launching Design Manager in Teamcenter

Teamcenter is a product lifecycle management tool, in which you embed and monitor multidisciplinary development stages of a product—from geometry construction, flow analysis, thermal management to material selection. As part of design exploration, Teamcenter supports the creation, modification, and execution of design studies using Design Manager.

The machines used as Teamcenter clients must satisfy the following requirments:
  • Software requirements described in Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Design Manager Integration Documentation. You find this document in the Help tab after you have launched one of the simulation tools from Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Design Manager.

  • TTLC (Teamcenter Tool Launcher Client for Active Workspace) is installed. For installation instructions, refer to Teamcenter Documentation Simulation Process and Data Management—Deployment and Administration, section Installing Simulation Process and Data Management > Install Teamcenter Tool Launcher Client for Active Workspace.
  • TCCS (Teamcenter Client Communication System) is installed. For installation instructions, refer to Teamcenter Documentation Teamcenter Rich Client Installation on Windows, section Install TCCS.
To create, modify, or run a Design Manager study from Teamcenter:
  1. Log in to Teamcenter.
  2. Create a CAE MDO model as follows:
    1. On the Teamcenter home page, click the CREATE SIMULATION.
    2. In the Create Simulation dialog, set Type to CAE MDO Model.
    3. Specify Name, accept default values, and click Create.

  3. In the created CAE MDO project folder, select the Open in Simulation Tool icon , then choose one of the predefined options for launching Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Design Manager:

  4. To create or modify a Design Manager project file (.dmprj), select STAR-CCM+ Design Manager - Create/Modify.
    1. Set up the reference simulation and design study in Design Manager.
    2. Save the .dmprj file in the temporal Teamcenter folder, whose name starts with ESP_.
    3. Close Design Manager.
When closing Design Manager, MDO analysis objects are created or modified automatically—one object per study.
Teamcenter also allows you to upload an existing Design Manager project file and activate automatic update.
  1. To upload an existing .dmprj file:
    1. In the created CAE MDO project folder, under the Attachments tab, select the Add to icon .
    2. In the Add dialog, select a .dmprj file.
Teamcenter automatically sets the file Type to CAE STAR-CCM+.
    3. Click the Open in Simulation Tool icon and select STAR-CCM+ Design Manager - Update Project.
After setting up the Design Manager project file, you run the design study within Teamcenter, either interactively or in batch mode.
  1. To run the design study in Teamcenter:
    1. Open the created CAE MDO project folder.
    2. Within the MDO Study tab, click on the design study you want to run.
    3. Optionally, you can modify the Input Parameters and Output Parameters (study response).
    • To run the design study interactively, click the Open in Simulation Tool icon and select STAR-CCM+ Design Manager - Run Study:

Teamcenter launches Design Manager automatically . When the study run is complete, after closing Design Manager, Teamcenter collects the design study dashboards as study results and updates the values for Input Parameters and Output Parameters within the MDO Study tab.

    • To run the design study in batch mode, click the Open in Simulation Tool icon and select STAR-CCM+ Design Manager - Run Study Batch in the :

Teamcenter runs the design study in batch mode without launching Design Manager interactively. Once the study run is complete, the results are passed to Teamcenter.

Design Manager in Teamcenter supports File Path Parameters, which provide the geometry file path for replacing parts using Replace Part operation. See 在研究中替代几何零部件 and Global Parameters.
  1. To include file path parameters in Teamcenter:
    1. To launch Design Manager, select the STAR-CCM+ Design Manager - Create/Modify.
    2. Create a design study. In the reference simulation, define the required file path parameters.
    3. Create a separate directory for each file path directory and specify the directory path under Input File Directory.
If you use the default current directory—(.) as Input File Directory, Design Manager copies the entire session directory. So you are advised to create a separate directory for each File Path Parameter.
    4. Save the project and exit.
    5. Refresh the Teamcenter page.
The MDO project saves FilePathInputFiles.zip as Input File. If you reopen of the project, Design Manager unzips the FilePathInputFiles.zip file automatically.
