Defining the Phases and Setting Initial Conditions

You create the water and air phases and select the appropriate phase models. Both phases use their default material properties. At the beginning of the simulation, the separator is filled with air only.

To define the water and air phases:

  1. Create the air phase.
    1. In the Physics 1 continuum, right-click the Models > Multiphase > Phases node and create a new phase.
    2. Rename the Phase 1 node to Air.
    3. For the Air phase, select the following models:

      Group Box

      Model

      Enabled Models

      Flow (pre-selected)

      Turbulent (pre-selected)

      Material

      Gas

      Equation of State Constant Density
    4. Click Close.
  2. Create the water phase.
    1. Right-click the Models > Multiphase > Phases node again and create a second phase.
    2. Rename the Phase 1 node to Water.
    3. For the Water phase, select the following models:

      Group Box

      Model

      Enabled Models

      Flow (pre-selected)

      Turbulent (pre-selected)

      Material

      Liquid

      Equation of State Constant Density
    4. Click Close.
  3. To set the initial conditions for air, select the Physics 1 > Models > Multiphase > Phases > Air > Initial Conditions > Volume Fraction node and set Value to 1.0.
  4. Save the simulation.
