Running the Study

Specify the run settings for the study.

To reduce the time it takes to complete the study, run multiple jobs at the same time.
  1. Expand the Design Studies > Optimization > Settings node.
  2. Select the Run Settings node and set the following settings:
    Parameter Setting
    Save Simulation Files None
    Simultaneous Jobs 6
    Compute Processes 1 (default)
  3. Right-click the Design Studies > Optimization node and select Run Study.
All necessary files for the study are created automatically.

When building completes, the jobs are submitted in the background. The Simcenter STAR-CCM+ servers for each job are visible in the server list.

The Output Table in the dashboard displays a list of designs being investigated and the specific settings of the input parameters. In this table you can keep track of the progress of each design in real time.

For more information on the various states of the designs, see Monitoring a Design Study.

The study is divided into cycles. Each cycle contains the number of runs equal to the Archive Size. Design Manager runs a single cycle at a time, and waits until all designs in that particular cycle are complete before moving on to the next cycle. The reason for this is that Design Manager uses the SHERPA algorithm when running a Pareto optimization study, and the SHERPA algorithm performs better the more cycles you run. For optimization studies with multiple competing objectives, the MO-SHERPA algorithm is used.
