Orientation of Contact-Mode Boundary Interfaces

The Orientation node is only available for interfaces between parts that are assigned to the same region. These interfaces are therefore contact-mode boundary interfaces within the same region, where Simcenter STAR-CCM+ requires an additional specification for orientation. This specification is particularly required for interface types such as fan, blower, and fully-developed.

  • The Orientation has two modes: Automatic and Manual.
    • Automatic:
      • Set direction for contacts based on regions associated with the part-surface pairs
      • Set direction for contacts based on parent boundary associated with the part-surface pairs
      • Set direction for contacts based on parts associated with the part-surface pairs
      • If mode is set to automatic, you can use the Orient command on the context menu to re-execute the ordering based on these rules.
    • Manual:
      • User can select contacts and reverse their direction
      • If the mode is set to Manual, you can use the Reverse Contacts... command on the context menu of the Orientation object to reverse selected contacts.
        • Invoking the command will pop-up the Reverse Contacts contact selector.
        • You can pick contacts to Reverse
        • The icon changes (small blue arrow) to indicate the "direction" of the orientation.
  • Certain interfaces may have conditions that require consistent orientation, for example, fan.
