Creating Overset Mesh Interface

In this overset simulation, while the background region is static, the overset region moves with a certain speed along a defined trajectory. At each time-step, the overset controller cuts a hole in the background mesh based on the size of the overset region. Mesh from the overset region then fills the hole in the background region.

During the solver stage, data in cells on either side of the overset interface are connected through data interpolation.

To create the overset mesh interface:

  1. Within the Regions node, multi-select the Background and Overset regions.
  2. Right-click either node and select Create Interface > Overset Mesh.
A new Interfaces > Overset Mesh 1 model is added within the simulation tree.
To improve hole-cutting robustness in parallel running, you activate Alternate Hole Cutting option within the overset interface.
  1. Expand the Interfaces > Overset Mesh 1 > Physics Conditions node. Select Overset Hole Cutting Options and activate Alternate Hole Cutting.
An overset interface is required before the overset mesh refinement criterion becomes available in the Adaptive Mesh model.
