Specifying Initial Conditions and Boundary Conditions

Initially, before any combustion reactions occur in the firebox, the volume of the firebox contains air. These initial conditions are defined within the physics continuum.

  1. Expand the Continua > Physics 1 > Initial Conditions node and set the following properties:
    Node Property Setting
    Mixture Fraction Value [1.0]
    Static Temperature Value 300.0 K
    Velocity Value [0.0, 1.0, 0.0]
  2. Expand the Regions > Firebox > Boundaries node.
  3. Multi-select the following boundary nodes:
    • FullFurnace.BurnerLeft
    • FullFurnace.BurnerRight
  4. Right-click one of the selected nodes and select Edit. In the Multiple Objects dialog, expand Physics Values and set the following:
    Node Property Setting
Mass Flow Rate Value 0.2113 kg/s
    Mixture Fraction Value 1.0
  5. Click Close.
  6. Multi-select the following boundary nodes:
    • FullFurnace.CoffinWalls
    • FullFurnace.CoffinWalls2
    • FullFurnace.Floor
    • FullFurnace.Symmetry1
    • FullFurnace.Symmetry2
    • FullFurnace.BurnerLeft
    • FullFurnace.BurnerRight
    • FullFurnace.Outlet
  7. Right-click one of the selected nodes and select Edit. In the Multiple Objects dialog, select the Physics Values > Surface Material node and set Surface Material to Furnace Walls.
  8. Click Close.
  9. Multi-select all six of the FullFurnace.Pipe# nodes.
  10. Right-click one of the selected nodes and select Edit. In the Multiple Objects dialog, expand the Physics Values > Surface Material node and set Surface Material to Furnace Pipes.
  11. Click Close.
  12. Save the simulation .
